The Pilots have gone to SoCal!
Our first day in San Diego has set the
tone for the rest of the week.
After a
quick shout-out over the airplane’s PA system in Portland, we were off, and
soon arrived at San Diego airport where we were picked up by Gabe and Juan, two
of our leaders from VIA International.
They brought us to Christ Lutheran Church, our new home for the next
week, where we set up camp and received an orientation to the activities during
our stay.
After learning a little bit
more about VIA International and their work with Los Ni
ños, the Mexican organization
dedicated to educating the local population on nutrition, finances, and
literacy, we all became excited to work!
Before dinner we checked out the outdoor showers (So Cali!) and took a
stroll on the beach combined with some quick, chilling dips in the ocean. We
returned to a dinner cooked by Sara, a “promotora,” or promoter, from Los Ni
ños,
and a group reflection.
One day down,
six more awesome days await.
